I know he had his faults, I know he grew old before his time, living with all his regrets and remorse on Tatooine. I know he died an untimely death. But I love him all the same.
Obi-Wan was the epitome of a Jedi Knight. He was dedicated, wise, strong, clever, patient, skilled in the ways of the Force, a formidable enemy with a lightsaber and equally comfortable at the negotiation table.
He taught Anakin everything he knew, to the best of his ability. Later he says he was wrong to try, but I disagree. The Jedi Order failed Anakin, not just one Jedi Master.
He may have said, “I was once a Jedi Knight the same as your father,” but her never stopped being a Jedi Knight. When duty called after 20 years he was ready and willing to take on the challenge.
He gave his life willingly to save Luke and the Princess, to save the mission. He truly believed he would become more powerful, and perhaps he thought death would bring him peace. He certainly deserved peace.
Even in death, he continued to be a Jedi, advising and instructing Luke in the ways of the Force, giving him the confidence to become the greatest Jedi ever.
It’s true that I find the Ep. III Obi-Wan to be a hot, hunky piece of man, but that’s beside the point. When he tells Grievous “I don’t think so!” It’s a testament to his dedication. And oh those blue eyes…. {Sigh}
When he tells Anakin “You were the chosen one, It was said you would destroy the Sith, not join them. Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness,” it brings tears to my blue eyes.
So, on this day of love, Obi-Wan, I honor you and all you’ve given our beloved GFFA.
